Ride A Bike To Work

Bike commuting became popular some years ago, when more cars could be seen on the road than people in your nearest mall. But now, common sense of people has developed to the point that they want to commute in the most simple, effective way, the bike.

Here we list 8 reasons why you should go to work on a bike. We don’t mean only a classic bike, there are many options like folding bikes or e-bikes as well that could help you in your journey.

Community benefits:

Even in the middle of the century, cars emitted a lot of carbon dioxide. Motorbikes emit far more smog-forming hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen. It is obvious that a bike is better for the environment than a car.

A simple way to think of it; If your job is less than 4 miles away, you can arrive in 15-25 min pedaling. But, if everybody drives a car to work to go 5 miles, this is when the congestion appears and we lose time.

To talk about how running a bike can help the income of a city and its population we need to go too deep. But, a simple example of this:

The investment to improve the bike paths is way less expensive than to expand the road for a car. So, efficient spending means more profit in long terms and less CPI as well.

Also, countries like Denmark have shown how Every kilometer traveled by bike instead of the car means €1 (USD 1.16) gained in terms of health benefits to their population. (You can google for more info)

Two simple examples:

Personal benefits:

If your job it’s less than 4 miles away you can arrive in 15-25 min on a bike, not to mention, you will save a lot of time finding parking. In case you feel that you will arrive sweaty and with offensive odor, you can always have an electric bike. This will help you to avoid that uncomfortable situation, in addition, a great option of transportation for those people with a job farther than 5 miles away.

As crazy as it sounds, it’s proven, for two reasons:

  1. First, work out increases endorphins which is the hormone of happiness and that makes you have energy, reducing stress and anxiety.
  2. Second, a bike gives a sense of freedom. Also, if you feel like your day starts with a workout routine, this should motivate you to proceed with a good attitude.

The cost of gas is different depending on where you live in the world. But according to AAA, the cost of owning a car on average is more than $ 9000. This includes maintenance and gas, without considering the spending on parking.

A bike, costs about what? $400 plus maintenance around $150 more a year? and if we talk about an e-bike it’s $800 to $1200 (a really good model) plus maybe $200 more on maintenance.

If you don’t own a car, think of all the money that you will save. Even if you already have a car, think of all the money that you will save in gas and parking for using a bike instead of your regular vehicle to go to work.

If you need to visit the doctor regularly, then consider the fact that you can save a lot of time and money by simply riding your bike. (On average a regular bike and a consult on the doctor could be the same price).

You will no longer feel stiff, overridden with pain, or overly anxious. With the money you will save, you can plan a small vacation to celebrate your improved health and mental awareness. Plus the fact that physically you will look better than many of your coworkers LOL.

There are many other benefits of riding a bike to your job, but I hope that with these can increase your excitement about the idea and help you to understand how much it will help you and the others around you! Keep riding my friends.
